They Plan to live homeless for a week to raise awareness
For nine days an outreach coordinator with Plateau Mental Health Center and our M.A.S.H./SSVF Program Director will be living the life of a homeless person.
Ron and Connie will surrender the keys to their homes and take up a standard of life that makes guarantees with respect to food or shelter. They will be homeless.
Rohrbach will live out of his 2013 Nissan Sentra, stay at a mission when appropriate, and deal daily with the challenges of the homeless with no permanent roof over his head from November 14 through November 22 – which is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Connie will also live out of her car the week of November 7th – 14th. Her teenage son will also be joining her for the weekend.
“I’m going have to think about what is needed and what is not and make sure the necessities are with me” Ron stated.
“Not only will I have to have what I need to live in my car, but I will also have a small mobile office with resources and information for agencies or homeless providers as well as resources for homeless people that I may encounter,” he said.
They will not only be using this campaign and challenge to raise awareness for homelessness and hunger, but they will also be using the effort to make the public better aware of the agencies who are helping homeless people every day. A GoFundMe account (gofundme.com/5676b8ww) has been set up, all proceeds will go towards homeless outreach. Additionally, Ron will be making a video diary during his week of homelessness, to document his experience. Connie will be contributing to a daily blog of her experience.
