The following is a press release from the Gallatin Police Department.

The Gallatin Police Department is proud to announce that in collaboration with Cumberland Mental Health, a division of Volunteer Behavioral Health, has been awarded the US Department of Justice FY 2018 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program grant.

This grant is designed for local law enforcement, community behavioral health providers, and other community partners to work in collaboration to build and strengthen partnerships to enhance public safety and behavioral health service delivery.

This collaboration could create an infrastructure aimed at improving responses and outcomes for those individuals who may have a mental health disorder, substance use disorder as well as co-occurring disorder and that may lead to contact with law enforcement, whether through committing a crime or experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

The anticipated outcomes are to better ensure officer safety as well as consumer safety, reduction in arrests, and an increase in development of services for the county to treat these individuals.

A data collection system will also be developed so that outcomes and impact to the community can be evaluated. The award amount will be announced in January 2019.
