Kandy Templeton

Kandy Templeton is Senior Vice President of Clinical Services for Volunteer Behavioral Health Care Systems. Kandy attended Middle Tennessee State University, graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science, with an emphasis in Social Work. She then furthered her education at the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1986 with a Master of Science in Social Work. Kandy began her social work career in 1980 working with the developmentally disabled. She began working at The Guidance Center in 1983. Kandy had a variety of roles within The Guidance Center system between 1983 and 1998. She was an outpatient therapist working with adults and particularly the Severely and Persistently Mental Ill. She served as liaison between the agency and Middle Tennessee Mental Health Center, she helped to develop one of first psychosocial programs in the state in 1989-90, and she was on the management team having the responsibility for daily activities in numerous locations.

In 1998 when the Guidance Center affiliated with Volunteer Behavioral Health Care she became Area Vice President. During this time she oversaw the operations for both Cumberland Mental Health Center as well as The Guidance Center. Currently Kandy’s role is to assist the agency and staff in the development of new programs and new opportunities. She very much enjoys the challenges and creativity that the job offers. Kandy has had a variety of experiences in the social work field including direct client services, home health, teaching, training, and consultation.

Professional Organizations and Committee Memberships:

  • Member of National Association of Social Workers, Tennessee Chapter, Board Secretary and President, July 2001-June 2003. Currently serving on the Tn Chapter Continuing Education Committee.
  • Tennessee Association of Mental Health Organizations, Clinical Services Committee.
  • Region V and State Mental Health Planning Councils

License and Certificates:

  • Licensed Clinical Social Work since 1988.
  • A Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, as certified by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work.
  • Certified as Social Worker qualified for self-regulated practice through the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
  • Registered in the NASW Register of Clinical Social Workers.
